Step inside my cozy NYC apartment and discover how I've transformed a small space into a calming oasis, filled with neutral tones and natural light.
Hey, I'm Jenn. I'm 24 and work in advertising and have my own pet brand on the side. I've been living in NYC for 2.5 years, alone (apart from my boyfriend and dog).
I live in a 622 sq. ft. apartment in NYC with a mixed husky/German shepherd puppy. Not a large space, but very practical.
Living room
My apartment is filled with neutral tones, creating a calm and serene space that allows me to unwind from my day-to-day life. I love that it has an expansive window, plenty of storage, and walk-in closet space — all of which are hard to come by in NYC.
Natural light is essential to me, so I opted for an open floor plan with no tall barriers blocking the sun. My dining room is situated right by the window, though I often move to the coffee table while I watch TV. This bright and open setting energizes me throughout the day.
I work from home most days, usually at the dining table or with my laptop on the couch. I'm much more productive at home than in the office, thanks to my cozy and comfortable set up- a curved monitor by the window and my dog as my snuggle buddy!
Both my dog Denali and I like to sit by the window and watch as people walk by down the street.
Don't be fooled by the clean floors – there's still plenty of puppy-induced chaos in my home! I tidied up, but if you look closely in some of the photos, you can still spot the odd dog toy or sock. lol
Kitchen
I'm always tinkering in the kitchen – brewing coffee, juicing celery and making nut milk. One of the best things about living in a studio is being close to the kitchen. Besides that, I have a really comfortable couch I like to lounge on. That's where I get most of my work done and relax.
On my display shelf I keep candles, speakers and decorative boxes from Roman and Williams Guild. The handmade earthware adds a rustic touch that pairs well with the neutral space. I experimented with different geometric shapes and earthy elements for my shelf layout. Sadly, the aloe is the only plant that could survive my attempts at green-thumbing.
I start my day with coffee – cold brew or espresso with oat milk. I love discovering new recipes during the week and spoiling myself with NYC's restaurants on the weekends. Brunch is always my favorite weekend activity – enjoyed at the coffee table.
Bathroom
Italian marble can be seen throughout the kitchen and bathroom, which I love. It came with the apartment, making it special compared to other apartments in the city.
My home often smells like Aesop, Tom Dixon, or Cire Trudon. Certain scents always take me back to special moments and can really bring a space to life with the perfect fragrance. In my bathroom, I have a NEST diffuser with rose noir and oud. These, along with Malin & Goetz Otto, are two of my all-time favorite rose home scents.
I wanted all appliances and decors to match the earthy theme. My Le Creuset pot is a similar tone and I use it every day. To keep the look sleek, I chose stainless-steel appliances and wood decors like a charcuterie board and fruit bowl to make the space feel warmer.
Bedroom
Functionality was my priority when choosing furniture for my apartment. I opted for a bed frame with an elevated platform and hidden storage underneath for suitcases and other large items. I kept the bedding minimal with white sheets and 7 fluffy pillows.
I love using Aesop oil in a Muji diffuser in my bedroom and living room to relax. For a change, I like displaying Cire Trudon and Tom Dixon candles.
Final thoughts
My dream house would feature a huge outdoor patio, with smooth transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces. I'm thinking of a Scandinavian chic interior with neutral, inviting decor and vintage pieces. Floor to ceiling windows and herringbone wood planks lead into an open kitchen for frequent hosting. Marble bathroom, kitchen counters and decorative pillars complete the vision.
My apartment is a glimpse of what's to come, and I can't wait to pour my creativity into designing a forever space of my own.
